Overview

The American Enterprise Institute seeks an intern for the Coalition Defense of Taiwan who will conduct research in support of scholar Dan Blumenthal and others. The team’s portfolio focuses on US defense policy and security issues in the Indo-Pacific, including China’s military modernization, interests and objectives of US allies, and cross-Strait relations. Candidates who are able to participate in the program on an in-person basis for 25-40 hours a week are encouraged to apply.

 

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Monitoring political and military developments in the region,
  • Researching historical and contemporary events,
  • Examining key aspects of modern warfighting in recent conflicts,
  • Compiling sources in English and Chinese, and
  • Collecting and organizing data.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A demonstrated interest in policy issues around cross-Strait relations and Asian security challenges,
  • Research experience in defense studies or related internship experience,
  • Close attention to detail,
  • The ability to work independently,
  • Mandarin Chinese language skills (highly desired, but not required), and

A positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills.

AEI internships offer a unique opportunity for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates to gain experience in research, writing, business, and communications at one of the nation’s leading think tanks. Competitive candidates will generally have a GPA of 3.5 or higher from a top-ranking college or university. The start dates for the spring program are: January 13th and January 20th.
