The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) seeks an intern who will assist Senior Fellow Kevin R. Kosar and other scholars in AEI’s Social, Cultural, and Constitutional Studies department. Dr. Kosar researches the US Congress and election reform, focusing on how electoral systems affect Congress as an institution.

The intern will assist with Dr. Kosar’s work on Congress and elections by reading and analyzing scholarship; collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data on Congress and elections; editing and writing; organizing events; and providing administrative assistance as needed.

Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated interest in the study of Congress and elections; a background in political science, history, statistics, economics, or a related field; strong research, writing, and editing abilities; intellectual curiosity; and a self-directed work ethic. Experience and familiarity with quantitative methods and research—including proficiency in R, Stata, and Python—are a plus.

The start dates for the spring program are January 7th and January 14th. While the AEI Internship Program and all related programming will take place in-person in Washington, DC this spring, virtual interns may be accepted on a case by case basis. Please include your prefered start date and note your in-person/virtual preference in your cover letter.  Please note that a cover letter and writing sample are both required, in order for your application to be considered complete.
